All storage installations will suffer damage, some more than others.

Even the smallest of installations will require inspecting on a regular basis. Health and Safety guidelines recommend that storage installations are inspected for damage on an annual basis by a technically competent person, this is in addition to in-house inspections. There is a legal requirement under the PUWER (1998) regulations to have storage installations inspected for damage.

The Storage Equipment Manufacturers Association represent UK manufacturers of storage equipment and have done so for many years. SEMA, through consultation with manufacturers, engineers and end users have established a code of conduct for rack safety inspections. Our inspections are carried out the SEMA standards and our inspectors are SEMA approved with many years experience.

On completion of the inspection any site specific issues are discussed with the client and a serious damage report issued. The client is expected to act on the serious damage report by unloading the unsafe storage locations. A full report follows a few days later detailing all of the damage identified by the inspection, this is not a tick list, it is a full and comprehensive report explaining the damage and offering advice on how to minimise damage and how to deal with damaged components. The report also includes a full materials list to assist the client with the ordering of replacement materials.
